a day away.

A couple weeks ago, Jay and I took a day to ourselves in Indianapolis before going to a concert. With three little ones, I feel like it is so necessary to get some time alone together when we can. I’m so grateful that we were able to spend some time together! Even after six years, three kids, and multiple moves- Jay is still my best friend. :) Here’s some photos from our day together… P.S. Colony House, Drew Holcomb, Switchfoot & Needtobreathe were SO good!

…the cutest little park!

…so good!!

Love seeing this. So glad you had some time together. I bet that was one awesome concert!

Wow, I can’t believe we are already a week into August. Where did this summer go? It has truly been a whirlwind! We have been so busy since moving into our house and I haven’t had much time to post anything for a while. Between moving, and weddings, and taking trips…it’s been a busy summer! These photos were taken probably two months ago and I had to share them. To me, these photos portray light- which I love.

If I were honest with you, the past year or so has been difficult for me. Just ask my husband :) It has not been an easy year. There are have been a lot of ups and downs, lots of emotions. Lots of stuff going on with my family and it hasn’t been fun. So when Reagan was born- she was a light, she was truly a gift. She (along with her brothers) have brightened up my days, and she has been such a gift through out this past year. I’m so grateful. God knows what we need and when we need it. She was one of those gifts that came at just the right time in our lives. So here are a few of my favorite pictures, just the two of us…

Always beautiful and love your heart, Arielle. <3

fourth of july at the lake.

We spent Fourth of July (and the week before) at the lake this year. The weather was beautiful and it was so nice to have a little getaway! The boys loved being on the boat and out on the water- Leland tubed for the first time and they both got to ride the jetskis. We also visited the Amish, ate (too much) of my grandma’s amazing food,  and mostly relaxed. I’m thankful for the memories that were made. These are just a few photos from our time at the lake– can we go back already? ;) them all dressed for the fourth just because :)

love my family!

…they’re hugging each other, I promise!

…about the longest time beau would hold still for a picture ;) haha

my grandpa and reagan, so sweet!

…the boys loved this water park!

…mk and leland out on the water :)

working at home with little ones.

The other day I sat down to edit while Reagan was taking a nap. I thought it would be a good idea since Leland and Beau could probably keep busy while they played together. As I opened up my computer and was ready to get to work, Beau brought a book to me and wanted me to read to him. Frustrated, I closed up my computer and sat with him as he handed me his book.

That, my friends, is what “working at home” with three kids truly looks like. Does it work? Not really, at least not when you want to give your 100% to something. When I work from home, when I decide to work AND give my kids my attention- I end up giving 50% to photography and 50% to my kids. Neither get my full dedication and attention and lets be honest…it can be discouraging.
I was reminded to refocus and remember what my true priorities are. All of my kids are at the age where they need me on a constant basis. Sometimes I wonder how other moms do it all, really! How are they running businesses, writing books, etc.  when I can barely have time to sit down and work for a few minutes. But then again, am I supposed to compare myself to them? No! I don’t know where they are at and I just need to worry about my own situation. I know that God has entrusted me with these three precious gifts, and I would hate to waste this season- only putting in 50%.
I want to make sure that I am where I need to be, to be the mom that these sweet kids need. (Even if that means much less photography for a season.) I am not any less- than because I am not running a crazy-busy photography business, writing books, or speaking at conferences. No, right now…being a mom and delighting in this job- it’s right where I need to be.

Oh Arielle! I love following your posts. Your love for Jesus is so encouraging in my day. I also have two young boys and a 7 month old girl and have a few freelance jobs from home, and honestly, its so exhausting and difficult. Some days it works, other days it doesnt, and for me it is practicing how I react in the moment when I dont get done what I want. It is so hard. You are not alone. and you are doing wonderful! So blessed by you! You shine Jesus!

You are an amazing momma – and so successful in all that you do! It is hard work having three kids at home and trying to run a business… This post highlights how amazing you are at trying to juggle it all and realising when it gets too much and what your priorities are x

reagan: eight months!

I cannot believe how quickly these eight months have FLOWN by! Oh my goodness, she is getting so big. She is the sweetest and has such a funny little personality. She has (sort of) started crawling and pretty soon she’ll be trying to keep up with her brothers. They still love her and are so good with her! She loves, loves, loves to eat and absolutely loves to swing on her swing outside! If time would slow down just a little, so I could soak up these days that go by so quickly while she’s a baby…that would be great ;)

I can’t believe she is already eight months! She is TOO cute!

leah + evan

My sweet friend Leah was in my wedding, and I was so blessed to be able to be a part of her wedding day! We have been friends since our college days (way back when…haha….) Anyway, Leah is one of the most beautiful friends you could have- she is a worship leader, she loves Jesus, and His love shines from her brightly! Their wedding was completely beautiful-with Christ fully at the center. I am so excited for Leah and Evan (even though I will miss catching up with her as they live in Colorado!) There were so many photos from their wedding, but here are just a few of my favorites from their day….

They chose not to see each other before the ceremony but exchanged letters instead….precious…..

Leah, you are stunning!
