working at home with little ones.

The other day I sat down to edit while Reagan was taking a nap. I thought it would be a good idea since Leland and Beau could probably keep busy while they played together. As I opened up my computer and was ready to get to work, Beau brought a book to me and wanted me to read to him. Frustrated, I closed up my computer and sat with him as he handed me his book.

That, my friends, is what “working at home” with three kids truly looks like. Does it work? Not really, at least not when you want to give your 100% to something. When I work from home, when I decide to work AND give my kids my attention- I end up giving 50% to photography and 50% to my kids. Neither get my full dedication and attention and lets be honest…it can be discouraging.
I was reminded to refocus and remember what my true priorities are. All of my kids are at the age where they need me on a constant basis. Sometimes I wonder how other moms do it all, really! How are they running businesses, writing books, etc.  when I can barely have time to sit down and work for a few minutes. But then again, am I supposed to compare myself to them? No! I don’t know where they are at and I just need to worry about my own situation. I know that God has entrusted me with these three precious gifts, and I would hate to waste this season- only putting in 50%.
I want to make sure that I am where I need to be, to be the mom that these sweet kids need. (Even if that means much less photography for a season.) I am not any less- than because I am not running a crazy-busy photography business, writing books, or speaking at conferences. No, right now…being a mom and delighting in this job- it’s right where I need to be.

Oh Arielle! I love following your posts. Your love for Jesus is so encouraging in my day. I also have two young boys and a 7 month old girl and have a few freelance jobs from home, and honestly, its so exhausting and difficult. Some days it works, other days it doesnt, and for me it is practicing how I react in the moment when I dont get done what I want. It is so hard. You are not alone. and you are doing wonderful! So blessed by you! You shine Jesus!

You are an amazing momma – and so successful in all that you do! It is hard work having three kids at home and trying to run a business… This post highlights how amazing you are at trying to juggle it all and realising when it gets too much and what your priorities are x

reagan: eight months!

I cannot believe how quickly these eight months have FLOWN by! Oh my goodness, she is getting so big. She is the sweetest and has such a funny little personality. She has (sort of) started crawling and pretty soon she’ll be trying to keep up with her brothers. They still love her and are so good with her! She loves, loves, loves to eat and absolutely loves to swing on her swing outside! If time would slow down just a little, so I could soak up these days that go by so quickly while she’s a baby…that would be great ;)

I can’t believe she is already eight months! She is TOO cute!

leah + evan

My sweet friend Leah was in my wedding, and I was so blessed to be able to be a part of her wedding day! We have been friends since our college days (way back when…haha….) Anyway, Leah is one of the most beautiful friends you could have- she is a worship leader, she loves Jesus, and His love shines from her brightly! Their wedding was completely beautiful-with Christ fully at the center. I am so excited for Leah and Evan (even though I will miss catching up with her as they live in Colorado!) There were so many photos from their wedding, but here are just a few of my favorites from their day….

They chose not to see each other before the ceremony but exchanged letters instead….precious…..

Leah, you are stunning!

morgan | senior portrait session

About a month or so ago, I met up with Morgan to take a few senior photos. The weather was perfect and I had such a great time! Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be posting some recent sessions/weddings on this blog :) Anyway, here are just a few of my favorites from the session!

She’s beautiful…. and so are the pictures….

gilliam family | portrait session

Brandon and Megan are always some of my favorite people to meet up with to take their photos. It doesn’t seem like that long ago I was taking Megan’s maternity photos, and this time I got to meet their precious daughter, Liv! She is too sweet! I loved catching up with them, as they were one of my first portrait sessions over four years ago- crazy! :) Here are just a few of my favorite photos from the day…

….So precious! :)

day at the orchard.

Wow, I really can’t believe I am actually sitting down to write!  The house is quiet…Leland went with Jay to Home Depot and Reagan and Beau are asleep napping. The windows are open with the sun shining in, and I’m sitting on my bed drinking coffee- glorious! There has been an absence on this ole blog mainly because 1. we moved!! Yep, again! I don’t think I fully realized the extent of how difficult moving with three little ones would be. But now, we are finally settling in and I don’t plan on moving again for a good while. Ha! I have so many photos, so many sessions…SO many pictures that I need to post and really would love to post. I still haven’t even finished posting all of my Florida pictures! (Those are next ;) )So hopefully I will get around to that soon. For now, I wanted to share some photos that we took (before we moved!) at an orchard when it was in full bloom. I will treasure all of these photos for years to come I’m sure :)

…Beau’s face in the far right picture totally sums up his personality!

…Ha ha the chub… She is too sweet! :)
